I have been working on the other side of the world for about four weeks now. It is easily the best experience of my life. I have learned so many things and gained so many experiences.

My job, although it sounds a little boring, is amazing. I am working as the enquiries intern at Hamilton Island Weddings on Hamilton Island in Australia. When people tell us they want to get married on the island, my job is to send them information. Slowly but surely I’ve learned other things too. Today I even sat on the phone for 20 minutes talking to a bride-to-be about weddings and what we do here. When we were done I was so excited because I only had to ask the wedding planners a couple questions and she had made a tentative booking!

What I love most, though, is living the Aussie life. I have met some great people during the last month. I didn’t know anyone when I got to the island. Right away, all my coworkers became my friends. They have given me what I affectionately call “Australian Culture Lessons” and have had me try all kinds of new foods. Some good, some not so great. I’m probably not going to take beet root back to the States with me. What I am going to take is a whole new perspective on what I want to accomplish in my life.

Moral of the story? I’m not ready to leave my life here in Australia.
